We had a ocean view room on the top floor for the last couple days. We woke up Tuesday morning to this rainbow. It started right on the water and made a full arch up into the mountains. You can see video of the whole thing in our youtube movie.
Tuesday was the first day we were on our own for the whole day. After a quick breakfast, the rest of the family was headed back the mainland. We decided to take a drive around to the north side of the island. Which turned out to be an awesome idea. The roads were curvy and narrow, but the scenery was amazing.
This is the first bay that we hit on the way north. The water was the coolest blue green color. We wanted to go snorkeling in this bay, but we could find a parking space anywhere, it was so crowded.
Another bay we drove past
We finally stopped at a place called Blowhole. Parking was at the top of a big hill. The hike down was about a half mile down to the water. For the second day in a row, we had a poor shoe choice. This time it was Mirav. She wore flip flops, but made the hike anyway.
This is the blowhole. There is a hole in the rock that acts like a tunnel for the water. When the waves crash into the rock the water shoots into the air like it was coming out of a blowhole. The waves were brutal. They were crashing and throwing water everywhere.
One of the few Eric sightings on the Hawaii trip
Some extremely wet, foreign people were kind enough to snap a picture of us at the bottom.
This was a natural feature. A heart cut into the lava rock with a great view of the ocean behind it.
We made our way back from the north side and decided to do some snorkeling. The fine people at Snorkel Bob's decided to rent me a broken mask which slowly filled up with sea water and left me blind and angry 100 feet from shore. After a trip back to get a new mask, we were ready to see some junk in the ocean. We went on the same beach that the wedding was on. There was all kinds of cool stuff in the water out there.
This is a good look for me
Snorkel Mirav
The fish were sneaky and fast. But we got some pictures
We spent about an hour out in the water. We came back in tired, sandy and very hungry
Dinner for the night was a Luau. It was about what I imagined. Very touristy. The dancing was fun and the food was good, but I was disappointed by the lack of fire spinning. This is a picture of the pit they cooked the pig in. People went crazy for this. You had to get there 20 minutes early for a spot to see the pig when they take it out. The sun went down quick so I didn't get a lot of pictures
Me in my lei by the ocean
Mirav got a fancy flower for her hair. She looked beautiful
Mirav's plate of food. We ate and drank and watched people in grass clothes dance around. It was a fun evening. Probably the best day we had on the island. We headed back to the hotel to pack and get ready for our flight home the next day.
