Oregon Coast

The weather decided to give us a little reprieve this weekend. No rain and no clouds. I know weird. Mirav saw the news, threw our stuff in the car and drove us to the coast. The coast is about 70 miles from us and took an hour and a half.

There are trees the whole way, all the way up to the beach

Mirav, trying out the new camera

Rare picture of me. Carrying beach towels. Shows what we know. It was about 50 degrees and the water came in and out about 100 feet. No place to sit without getting wet.

I thought this rock was awesome. There is a big sign on it that says you can't climb on it. Challenge accepted!!

View of Epic Rock from our parking spot.

Mirav got out her telephoto lens and got some great shots. The waves were huge and would probably kill you if you tried to swim. Two people went in a bit and get water up to their knees and came running out yelling, "Cold, Cold, Cold!"

Eric's Parents Visit

Because I am their favorite child, my parents made the trip up to the frigid north for a long weekend to visit. We had some fun stuff planned, then it rained. So instead we did wet cold stuff.

Disclaimer: Half of our pictures are on my dad's camera. Possibly more pictures to come

My parents got in Friday night. But we are mean lazy children, so we made my parents take the train to their hotel. We didn't see them until Saturday morning. We had breakfast at a little place by our house called Jam. My mom was very excited about the Lemon Ricotta pancakes. My dad got a sausage "link" which turned out to be half a blackened kielbasa. Oregon is weird. I'm just surprised it was meat.

My parents, trying to figure out why there was water falling from the sky. Where is the sun?!

Editors note: They put all leftovers in Asian takeout containers here. Even pancakes

It's 10:30am on a Saturday, time to drink some beer. We went to a local brewpub for a tour.

This is Jamie, our brew master. He LOVES brewing beer. He gave a great tour. We are all nerds, so this stuff was right up our alley.

That night we got home to find this package. Mirav called it the "Franken-box."

It was crudely constructed of pigs in a blanket and oatmeal boxes. Then covered in Reindeer wrapping paper and an entire roll of packing tape. It took Mirav 20 minutes to open it. Inside was an SLR camera from Mirav's Uncle Andy and Aunt Darlene. Once Mirav figures out how to use it, expect some better pictures on here.

Sunday morning we ate at Mother's Bistro. They had funny mugs, and good food, and little kids that couldn't sit still or shut up.

My parents braving the rain storm

After breakfast, we went to OMSI, our local science museum. I met a frog, a smug frog.

According to one of their exhibits, this is what I will look like as an old person. I will still have the same haircut though, so that's good news. I got pictures of my Mom's and Mirav's, but they both insisted I not post theirs. They didn't look as handsome as me, jealous much?

It stopped raining for the first time in the history of Oregon, so we went outside. We're standing under the I-5 bridge on the Willamette River.

I had my ducks in a row, literally

Like I said, there are more pictures, cool pictures. But I don't have them. I will soon obtain them and update.

New Years and Weekend Adventues

Happy New Years everyone! Our first few weeks of the year have been mostly uneventful. We got a couple pictures though.

We went over to the Olson's for New Years. We go to the Olson's a lot. They are the designated hosts for group events. They have a nice house and a fridge that is continuously replenished with beer, so I am happy to attend their parties. Kim (in green) announced she was pregnant! We're very happy for Kim and Steve. Kim is going to be a great parent. Steve will be a parent...

This is the Olsons' dog Sage. She is a very good dog. She is rewarded with tortilla chips.

Mirav and Lindsey. A few days after this, Lindsey took a spill and broke her collar bone. Here's to a speedy recovery Lindsey. Lindsey's husband Nick ate so much steak that he could barely stand at the end of the night. It was hilariously disgusting.

I don't remember why Tami was in this towel

But I thought it was funny

A couple weeks ago, we went to a Thai restaurant called Pok Pok. This place gets rave reviews, We first saw it on TV. It's kinda like a bunch of little trailers connected to each other with tents.

They are famous for these chicken wings. Which were actually entire legs or arms, whatever chickens have. I thought they were pretty good, but Mirav thought they were too salty. Our other dish was some sort of noodle soup that looked like they scooped some water out of the gutter and put green stuff on top of it in a bowl. They were kind enough to add some meatballs to our gutter water that looked and tasted like vending machine bouncy balls. We were not so impressed. Food Network, you lied to me!

For dessert, we headed up the street to Pix. It was a nice little cafe that has some cool desserts. We ate our dessert before I could take a picture of it. Picture a big cream puff with Grand Marnier filling, topped with smaller cream puffs and whipped cream. Like a creme puff castle. It was legit. You can see the empty plate below.

The tiny spoon made me feel like a giant.
